A Collection Of Vintage Superstars

Check out some of these amazing vintage shops that I just can’t get enough of!

Adorevintage.com is an online vintage clothing store based in Los Angeles, California. Our shop carries vintage from the 1900s to the 1980s with select vintage inspired clothing and accessories.” Ahhh…so much said with so little words…But none which help evoke the truly magnificent creature that is Adore Vintage.  Maybe that’s their angle, underplay themselves so their customer isn’t intimidated and is made to feel as if they have stumbled onto a secret golden treasure.  That’s how I feel at least as I am clicking through their vast collection of vintage drobe; like a kid who has just found the last piece of succulent chocolate at the bottom of a barrel.  The word NEXT screams out to me as I glide my mouse over it, brightly stinging my eyes as it breathes life and I am faced with the knowledge that the next page is better than the last.  How giddy it makes me!  To see an abundance of prime vintage, effeminate, pristine and delicate, dashed with era-specific prints or trimmed in silky antique laces fills me with a giddy, guilty pleasure and a sudden attack of the giggles! It’s all so beautiful at Adore Vintage; from the dainty dresses to the button down maxi skirts to the period jewelry that appears to be just taken out of the package.  It’s crisp, lovely and surprisingly modern.  Their vintage makes you desire to feel sexy and sophisticated;  it speaks to the part of you that wants to get all gussied up just for the thrill of feeling beautiful.  And that is what is so amazing about this understated shop: It appeals to the WOMAN in you.

Silent Sundays is a fairly new find of mine.  I actually stumbled across it as I was searching for new shops on Twitter, or was it Facebook?, to covet.  Not that I get bored of the shops I follow now, but it’s always nice to see what else is lurking out there in the cyber world of vintage.  Silent Sundays is actually a collaboration between designer apparel and vintage.  One part of the shop caters to “selling new independent designer pieces from around the world and vintage finds from the American south.” How did it get it start? I let the owners tell you, they say it better than I could: “It was born when two friends and collaborators out of Georgia were preparing for a shoot and began dreaming up an online store full of the things they liked best: timeless vintage pieces, romantic dresses, hard-to-find clothing from favorite international lines, all carefully curated and wrapped up in dreamy photography and simple styling. Silent Sundays’ name is a nod to the silent movies of the past; our clothes are meant for day-trips, simple adventures, and lazy Sundays.” How cool is that? It just fills you with warmth as you read it!  And that’s what this store is, warm.  Every piece is carefully selected to fit in with their mission statement. The love and passion for what they do is evident in the careful and precise styling of their outfits and the way in which all of their pieces meld together.  While their collections might not be extensive, the items that they do have create a very cohesive and stimulating collection. You can understand who these fashion lovers are and what sort of people they must be.  Carefree, down to earth and relaxed.  An exact replica of their adorable clothing.

How happy am I that TellTaleHearts stopped by my Facebook Page and said Hi! I am totally in love with this vintage cyber shop!  It’s a unique store filled with genuine one-of-a-kind vintage.  You could easily fill your entire wardrobe from TellTale without breaking a sweat buying both for work and play.  TellTale is stocked to the brim with print filled secretary dresses and casual down to earth tops! And if you love color, this is definitely the place for you! TellTale provides its customers with bold prints and bright colors; perfect for the highly spirited gal who loves to have fun!  And you can tell the owners of this shop are just that sort of lady by their choice of head turning, conversation pieces!  Who wouldn’t want to shop a store that glorifies that gushing feeling of overwhelming childhood joy! Another awesome part about this shop that I love…The Specs.  TellTale has a superb collection of sunglasses from the 70s, 80s and 90s.  All in mint, ready to wear condition!  I don’t know how I would be able to choose just one!  Read a little bit more about the ladies from TellTale and how they came to be here!

I know what I am about to say you’ve heard before in reference to other stores, but it rings ultimately true in this case.  BLACK PYRAMID IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SHOPS. Without question in reigns in at the upper crust of my top five go-to vintage shops.  Why the adoration?  Well, in short BP is just awesome! No, let me be serious.  Black Pyramid is the kind of shop that you can go to and purchase some of the most authentic, well-conditioned vintage from the 70s, 80s and 90s.  A bit o the edgier side of vintage, they cater to the girl who isn’t afraid to wear a complete head to toe black outfit, complete with a crushed velvet boho top, skin tight leather pants, fringe shoulder bag and a pair of platforms that would make Lady Gaga a bit queasy.  And if it’s a bit cold outside, pair it with one of BP’s delectable studded leather jackets for which I’m sure will make your friends uber jealous! And yes, if you’re wondering, this shop does have items that aren’t black. I just tend to lean towards that moto look! BP does carry some “sweet” items; your carefree 70s maxi dresses, you’re floral printed tops, but all in all BP is for the girl who is a bit on the wild side.  A girl who isn’t afraid to make a statement, who isn’t scared to take a risk and who doesn’t wait for Fate to determine her path, but makes one for herself.   Are you a BP girl?  Read more about how Black Pyramid came to be here.

Adorable and Fun.  Two words that describe the vintage that is The Stellar Boutique.  “The Stellar Boutique was created out of a love for all things original and authentic.” It provides its customers with not only unique vintage clothing and accessories, but also with both vintage and new home goods.  And while I find the home goods charming, I definitely tend to stray towards the vintage clothing and accessories which she has so expertly separated into decades for me!  Her strength: Vintage bags.  If you are in the market for a great vintage bag, then you should definitely check Stellar out.  Especially if you love leather, fringe and studs! Which I definitely do! Another thing I love about Stellar: The Rings.  Huge, beautiful chunks of stone in silver just begging to be bought! It’s seriously hard to resist!  Check out more about Stellar here.

A Beautiful Lark..

From the small town of  Providence, Rhode Island rises the uber-talented shop of  LarkinandLarkin.  A shop based within the earth, its visceral elements of stone, wood and metallics take their wearer back to simpler times.  A time when you hunted off the land, cooked over fires and built your home by hand. Or, even sooner still, back to a time before the 80’s when free love and free speech weren’t just coined words and the free spirit embellished their bodies with unique and natural jewels.  LarkinandLarkin defines the individual, bringing to them handmade jewelry produced from eco-conscious materials.  Its collection is what jewelry to me should be; uncomplicated, understated and simple.  There isn’t much you will see on this makers jewels that is not necessary, which is extremely refreshing.  To often have have I seen accessories that are over embellished and as a result just become an ugly mess of tangled silver and gold.  The statement of the piece is lost and more than likely, if purchased, will not be worn the following year.  But, with LarkinandLarkin, that is not the case.  Every piece is made to perfection, with just the right amount of detail; creating jewelry you will wear and pass on. LarkinandLarkin includes in its constantly updated shop a variety of rings, necklaces, hair pieces and earrings, all of which are one-of-a-kind and speak to its buyer.  Their mission statement, “I make this stuff because I love you and I want you to look good.” What more could you ask from a jewelry shop? Check out only a few pieces from her collections:

A Sparkling Delight…

Not to long ago I was fortunate enough to stumble across an eclectic jewelry shop on Etsy called Sparkling Lotus Design.  This vintage/vintage inspired shop tugged immediately at my heart strings as I scrolled through its categories; Rings, Necklaces, Bracelets and Earrings, some vintage, some not, but all with a Native American, Art Deco feel to them.  And all with stone elements from turquoise to lapis to agate with most embedded in aged sterling silver.  Absolutely delicious.  Just looking at S.L.D’s beautiful jewelry was almost to much as I wanted to purchase everything from the shop and then insist on wearing all of it at once! Could you imagine how much of a mess that would be!  But, this was enough to get me interested in the shop and to make it a weekly, if not a every other day, occasion to stop by and check out the merchandise.  What I discovered was that this particular shop is not the shop that will carry a ton of pieces, but the ones that it does carry are unique, stunning, and flawless in their aged perfection.  Usually these pieces do not last a long time in store as I never see too many of the same items twice, so you have to act fast if you really like something!  But, with reasonable prices the decision isn’t tough and more times than not you will be clicking that “Add to Cart” button!

So what is this store all about, you’re asking?  Why, besides the fact that they carry some of the most amazing Vintage Native American Jewelry I’ve seen at stellar prices, should you stop by?  Easy.  Because it is owed by a genuine, warm heated, caring soul who is not only invested in her store, but lives and breathes her passion.  Not only does express herself through the wear of her own personal vintage jewelry, but inspired by it she designs and crafts her own jewels.  Seen as an artistic expression, she aims to create (and sell!) pieces that connect her customers to their inner selves and hopes to inspire individuals in their daily lives. What better shop to visit than one who’s owner is someone that wants to help inspire and who truly believes and stands by her products quality and preservation?

And to prove just how generous and delightful this shop owner is I will just have to show you.  As you are aware, if you have to been reading my blog for a bit, I feature many Etsy and Ebay shops when creating fun vintage outfits or in posts about my favorite shops.  So, I happened to use SLD in two posts, one as a featured piece in an outfit and the other in a favorite vintage shop feature.  In these posts I used a certain piece of jewelry twice as I just loved it so much and I thought it was simply beautiful.  Now, I never ask for compensation if I just happen to use your shop or product without being asked and I never assume that I will ever get anything but a “Thanks” in return for doing so.  So, you can imagine my utter surprise (and giddy delight) when I received an email not only thanking me for the feature of her store, which I was grateful for, but stating that in appreciation of doing so that she would be sending me the piece of jewelry that I had featured twice! I mean how amazing and generous is that!? I was totally taken by surprise when she told me that! How amazing is that?  No more validation needed!  Check out my gift:

A Vintage “Feet”

Now, I know I’ve been on the hunt for some serious vintage beach wear and that I have found everything from bathing suits to sunglasses to coverups, but as I was scrolling through my Etsy shops, it dawned on me that I left out one very important element.  THE SHOE!  I mean hello!, your feet can be just as fashionable and fabulous as the rest of you!  Really, they are one of the most important of all accessories and can make or break an outfit, so its essential to pay careful attention that what you put on those adorable wiggly toes reflects who you are as a person.  And my FAVORITE thing about shoes is that you can have so much fun with them. You could be wearing a basic, no fluff outfit and POP!, with a bright colored shoe it could change it around in a second!

So, this in mind I went on Etsy and checked out one of my go-to stores for amazing footwear, Santoki Vintage.  This Austin based store is prime picking when it comes to handpicked vintage shoes! Carrying some of the best vintage footwear from sandals to boots I’ve seen, this store has became a fast favorite of mine.  And what’s best is that they are constantly adding new items all the time and for someone like me who is always on the lookout that is definitely a plus.  They also carry some superb vintage clothing which may not come in such an abundance as their footwear, but nonetheless still are noteworthy.  For example, check out this sick leather aviator jacket at Santoki. I am absolutely OBSESSED with it! Such beautiful color and the condition is outstanding!  Speaking of condition, let me get back to the footwear before I get to carried away!  Santoki’s taste in vintage shoes is flawless without a doubt, but the condition of the shoes is what really makes then stand out.  Providing you with pictures of every angle, Santoki invites its customer to ease their minds. By not holding anything back and revealing a visual truth about their product,  your can be assured that what you see is what you get.  Makes you feel a little warm and cuddly on the inside doesn’t it!? So, without any further adieu, behold some AMAZING Vintage sandals and flats that will be sure to not only make a statement no matter how worn, but will make you feel even more special and unique than you already are!

I love the pattern on these sandals! Intertwining salmon, green, purple, yellow leathers make for a chameleon pair of awesome vintage that would look stylish with anything that you have in your wardrobe.  With their low heel and their near perfect condition, my bet is that these are super comfy! Happy and fashionable feet; what could be better? $33 at Santoki.

I think my favorite part of these pair of vintage leather sandals are the cute buckles on the side!  Knowing me, I would probably never even adjust them for fear that I would mess up the “look” of the shoe! Yeah, that’s right, I’d flop around and let my shoes say “Hi!” to ya every chance they got!  In great condition, these low heeled, geometric sandals are only $42 at Santoki.

I haven’t seen a pair of vintage sandals like these in a while!  I mean they have a basic shape, but I love the way the two leather strands stretch over the top of the sandal connecting back to front.  For one, it’s nice to know they won’t flip off your feet!  Two, it dresses up the sandal a bit more so you can not only wear them to the beach, but even out to a nice dinner with that surfer boyfriend of yours! In excellent condition, these multicolored braided leather sandals would be a great addition to your wardrobe for only $35 at Santoki.

Ok, so my FAVORITE color is PURPLE!! So, you can imagine my excitement when I happened to cross paths with these babies! In fabulous condition, these vintage leather purple sandals are to die for and are perhaps my favorite of the whole bunch! So, I’m biased! Who isn’t when it comes to their color!  And besides the obvious reason for my adorement, check out the rest of the pics of these sandals and you will discover a little surprise when you turn them over! $33 on Santoki.

I’m trading in my sexy slingbacks for another pair of slings! These canvas “slingbacks” are certainly a more comfortable alternative to everyday living! A colorful striped canvas, I can’t say that they would totally match with everything, but hey, when you love something so much, does it really matter? I think not! Besides, if you love “beach fashion” and live in tees and shorts, I think you’ll get by just fine! $19 at Santoki.

Bangle, O Bangle!

We all love a great story.  Whether it be about a mermaid finding her true happiness or a heart wrenching story about a boy losing his dog; we are bound by that desire to loose ourselves to another reality.  No matter if that reality be true or false, happy or sad, we cannot help it. It’s human nature.  Which is where I now find myself; moved by a beautiful story.  A story in this case that has to do with a devoted son and his dedication to his mother’s craft.  A craft that he helped his mother with when he was a child and has now found it to be his driving passion.  Who is this man, you ask?  Who is this man that has been so profoundly inspired by his mother that he has decided to take a leap of faith and make a career of her art?  That would be Kevin, a 27 year old Atlanta resident, who, after his mother’s death a year ago, took it upon himself in 2010 to establish AnnPrimRose, a company dedicated to the buying out and selling of  high quality vintage jewelry. An Etsy based store, AnnPrimRose “provides authentic vintage jewelry that is a part of American history and culture including bangles, bracelets, brooches, earrings, necklaces, and jewelry supplies.” My personal favorite being the beautifully preserved Lucite vintage bangles and bangle sets.  Fun and colorful, they’re enough to make me want to put on my 70’s floral day dress with my oversized floppy hat and line the length of my arms in as many shiny bangles as possible! Interesting how an accessory can inspire not only an outfit, but move one so to remember the feeling of a hot summer day or the way in which a backyard creek cooled your hot feet.  And for Kevin, AnnPrimRose, isn’t only about vintage jewelry, but it is an homage to his mother Ann, a way for him to keep her designer name going.  Much more than that, it provides an outlet for him to use the skills which his mother taught him as a young boy to create and design his own jewelry.  A skill which has suited him well as he has been fortunate enough to have sold his designs in Atlanta boutiques. An accomplishment which does not come easy to any new comer to the fashion industry and demands a round of applause! ::APPLAUSE:: And for Kevin, this journey has just begun! Concentrating on expanding his online Etsy store, I am excited to announce that Kevin will be taking it to the next level as AnnPrimRose.com will be launching soon! Until then, shop AnnPrimRose on Etsy and check out a couple of my personal favs from AnnPrimRose!

This 1960’s Lucite Canary Yellow Bangle is exquisite! Bright in color and shiny in effect, this fun bracelet will be sure to make any outfit you wear POP! A Floral Obsession!

If you’re like me and you love clothing that is unique, fun, and speaks to your personality, then you’re going to want to check out HayRitaVintage!  A fairly new Etsy based store, HayRita began to come of age when its shop owner, a vintage lover since she could remember, found herself in Salsburg, NC shopping in an old general store only to discover some Vintage Betty Barclay dresses at her disposal! She snatched them up quick and as soon as her fingers touched the smooth delicate fabric she was hooked! As much as she loved vintage before, it was at that moment that she decided that she not only had to have it for herself, but that she wanted to sell it. To supply the masses with top quality vintage  at good cost and to help individuals fit their styles with a bit of vintage flair.  From there, it was all just a matter of going through that painstaking process of FINDING those perfect items.  But for her, this was part of the fun of it all, the discovery, the challenge.  I quote, “I realized how much fun it was to scout around estate sales and church yard sales for those impeccable pieces instead of having other people do all the searching for me.” Commendable I must say.  And in my opinion, unless your store is a coorporate company, the owners should be the ones hunkering down the responsibility of finding the product.  That is what makes vintage different. Vintage is not something that can be ordered in extreme bulk like a Gap or an Old Navy.  It cannot be labeled like mainstream American Eagle and Abercrombie and Fitch. No, it must stand on its own.  It must make the individual know that it is truly unique and by that person purchasing it that they become a part of fashion history and that part of the fashion movement that begs to break free of the monotonous style of the “brand name” clothing.  It is self expression.   Which is the exact reason why the shop owner should do the scavenging. Her store, her style, her name. Hats off to you HayRita!

Besides her will to find all of her own vintage clothing for her shop, the seller has also geared her store to uphold strong costumer service values.  Which, lets face it, in the retail industry there is nothing more important.  HayRita strives to provide her customers with unique 1930-1980’s vintage and hopes to add a bit of boldness to everyday life.  Not new to the business of customer service, HayRita has all the confidence that her shoppers will experience “prompt replies to clothing inquiries, amazing vintage finds and friendly conversation.” And I can tell you that I believe HayRita is a viable and honest vintage shop and I would, with all the confidence in the world, spend my hard earned cash on her spunky vintage.  As funny as it sounds, it was hearing her story of how her store’s name came to be that charmed me into wanting to bring my wallet out just to buy something! Apparently it was her crazy cat that helped inspire her to name her store HayRita.  Being that she always found herself yelling at her cat, Rita, to steer clear of the racks of vintage clothes as she measured and labeled her finds, she found it only appropriate to name her store after her cautious screams , “Hay Rita!!” Oh, well, of course it could have been the fact that she adores Rita Hayworth, but I find the cat story much more interesting and just plain funny!

Check out the cute outfit I made from HayRita’s floral shift dress and clipons! I love it!

Time to Spring!

It’s snowing outside and all I can think about is Spring!  Yes, Spring! Spring and its dandelions, its warm breezy days, and its…Spring Dresses! And not just any spring dress, but a truly unique vintage dress!  I just love that aroma that radiates from an aged dress, almost as if it was pressed inside of an old library book and left to ripen;  blending perfectly with natures smells and that warm feeling that immediately overtakes you as you take that first step into a sunny Spring day. So, as per the usual, I have searched to find the perfect dress for that occasion. The result: BrownBagVintage, a cute Etsy shop that offers its shoppers everything vintage from tops to accessories! Beginning its journey in Los Angeles, shop owner Michelle Delgado, has been an Etsy seller since 2008! Following her heart to Brooklyn, she currently resides in Brooklyn, where she  now conducts her business. When Michelle isn’t digging for her newest vintage finds, she is actually working for Etsy on their support team in Dumbo. And as she says, “…I’m very much looking forward to helping folks with all their thises and thats!”  Awesome!  Now, the hardest part about Delgado’s cute store, choosing just ONE  dress for my spring fantasy! But luckily I narrowed it down and found one in particular that I think that you will also fall in love with! Check it out!

White Dress: The winner of my Spring dress search! This sweet eyelet sundress is one of Etsy seller’s, Brownbagvintage, cutest! A fully lined cotton dress, this 1980’s spring dress is going for only $38 and is in excellent condition! Better be quick to scoop it up or else I will!

Vintage Inspired…

So, I was poking around the other day (naturally) and I came across a site that I can’t keep in the dark!  It’s absolutely FABULOUS!  Not only does it have amazing prizes, but the clothing is super adorable and “ready to wear.”  Not to mention that the clothing line also offers an eco-friendly, an indie-made, and a curvy plus line.  Interested?  Apparently you are if you’re still reading!  So, I’m gonna let you in on my find…the name of my new favorite women’s apparel company is Ruche.  And what makes this clothing line so amazing, besides the actual apparel, is the fact that it was created with love by a pair of lovebirds who dreamed of being able to build their own business.  As we women have come to find, sometimes it can be a bit difficult to find clothing that fits not only our personal style, but our budget. Lucky for us though, this is exactly what Mai Olivio, one of the founders of Ruche, found herself experiencing.  So she began in 2005 to buy and sell clothing that she felt fit with her personal style and through the years she and her husband Josh Olivio steadily built her business based on Ruche’s mission statement of “a modern boutique with a vintage touch.”  By 2008 Josh Olivio, who holds a degree in Computer Science and Web Developement, was able to create ShopRuche.com and since then their business has steadily been growing.  Priding themselves on customer service, they still personally answer customer emails and honor any discrepancies that may be found with their clothing.  Even more impressive and what I find most interesting about this company, is that they strive to ensure that small boutique brands and indie designers are represented in their catalogue.  Artists helping Artists…I love it!
